- It's so easy to make film now with the tools available

my kids have made a number of stop motion films, and they find these very amusing to make and to view again.
They've also made films and edited them with movie maker (windows), and the mac movie program.
It's also amazing to see all the free flash animation on the web (they watch these a lot), and my personal favourite content of recent months, the film www.starwreck.com, which was rendered on home pcs.. amazing. Truly amazing.
When the sales channels for home movies open proper, with some sort of ranking by popularity, I think this form of media distribution will challenge hollywood.
I did submit the best of my kids movies to google video but they have some kind of problem accepting just anyone's content for sale at the moment. (any idea of an alternative?).
I think hollywood will continue to exist, but they'll be more competitive with DVD prices and so on. In fact this has happened to some extent already, and I hate to imagine how amazon selling second hand DVDs has affected Hollywood income..
Essentially all that has happened is that the huge barrier to entry of tools (computer animation, editing and video cameras) has dropped to such an extent that the man in the street can compete in the same market.
I guess you could draw some deeper meaning in marx-ian terms like everyone can now own the means of production (the same is true of CNC machines BTW - they are incredibly cheap these days). - Posted by: stevey_d Posted on: 04/17/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
