Save the Righteous Indignation
The 'Telcos' and Cable companies are local monopolies because they own the last mile. That piece of wire (or if you are lucky 'Fibre') to the 'Internet'. Therir business model has always been squeeze the customer, charge the most you can get away with and provide the minimum you have to. If it wasn't for the competition between them - a lot of localities wouldn't have high speed access today. They both hate 'WiFi' since it threatens their business model. They hate the requirements that came with deregulation to share access to that 'last mile' and they facilitate innumerable taxes. Given any choice to fair trade they also choose something else.
