Google Secrets Revealed
If I visit an Adsense website from a search engine, the search query is in the referrer string.

So for example I search from MSN for 'white chocolate bunnies' and it takes me to a page of Easter Gifts, the Adsense guys can then pull out the referrer string and realize that you wanted 'white chocolate bunnies' and target that advert to that instead of generic easter bunnies.

Also if you have the referrer string, and you also have a copy of the page they came from and can target the shared properties of both the page they left and the page he's visiting and target the adverts better.

I wonder what Google are thinking? The goodwill they will lose from this far outweighs any benefit.
