Critics of XXX Miss the Point
The fact of the matter is that there are forums in which pornographic material is simply inappropriate. These included internet portals available in school libraries and businesses. The municipalities and private employers that own these machines have a right to restrict access on them. Right now, this is a difficult task. How do you identify porn from professional or educational content when they use the same top-level domain?

The introduction of this domain does not in and of itself limit this speech. If anything it makes it easier to find and electronically crawl. We already have edu, org and us domains in use by educational, nonprofit and municipal groups. Their separation does not limit access to these sites. If anything it helps. If I want to find the official website for massachusetts, I simply walk up the us domain tree from us to ma to state. Makes logical sense doesn't it?

The move to promote xxx domains isn't going to affect access to those sites. People who want to browse porn will find a way, trust me. They just won't be able to do so at work or at public libraries. Such a change is not going to crack the earth in half or anything. And the arguement that speech will be limited due to people's ignorance about configuring their own machines is ludicrous. Since when has ignorance been a valid arguement for any public policy?
