Not really, it's that politicians looking to get elected have to pander to these "pure" types, namely, the Christian right. Americans are horned up, overwhelimingly oversexed individuals who could care less about "spreading values". It's the mafioso crooks who can only climb further up the ladder by leveraging those "Puritans" that keep the phony racket going.
The big reason why violence gets top billing is that it has always been a tool to CONTROL people. No one is intimidated or coerced by cunnilingus. In fact, most everyone wants to be engaging in that activity, whether giver or receiver. But threatening to break peoples' legs enables much more political leverage.. wink
