Violence is more acceptable than sex in America.
The defunct X rating was for adult content (A Clockwork Orange, etc.), XXX was created by the Adult Entertainment industry and usually included nude women and sex (which is also found in flicks like Porky's (1982) and coutless tasleless teen flicks). Parents take children into R rated films all the time, I was probubly 10 or 11 when my father brought me into see an R rated film (had sex in it too). NC-17 was created for sexually related or violent content (not liked very much, either) that was not gratuitous.

The problem is that Americans are trying to apply their Puritanical values upon the rest of the world. The Adult entertainment industry (world wide) more or less complies with 18 U.S.C. Section 2257. Even sites in some of the country domains that I already mentioned (.nl, .cz, etc.).

I realize that the senators feel that it is more acceptable for content that involves inducing pain (non sexual, as in sadism) than pleasure (cunnalingus, etc.) and that children should accept violence over pleasure, but I am just a wierdo (prefer pleasure).

The xxx domain will run into some problems if people like myself don't bother to move our content from .com, .nl, .cz, .ru, ... to the (proposed) new .xxx domain. Further, this will only confirm what the rest of the world thinks of Americans (nuts, crazy, violent, sexually uptite, Puritanical, etc.)
