The reality in most of the developed world
One thing, I think all those who think this is a good idea should realize is just how bad the broadband is in the US compared most of the developed world. In S. Korea and Japan, for instance, broadband is often available in city wide municipal wireless networks or with fiber optic lines costing about 20 dollars US a month. The US broadband system's growth and innovation pale in comparison and at the same time people in the US pay enormous amounts of money for what they do have. As long as the US government allow these sort of nit picky dime you to death schemes and supports the corporate monopolies on the lines, US citizens will continue to be abused. The question should not be why don't we allow them to tier service so they can offer better rates to those who use less. The question should be why is the US broadband system so pathetic compared to the rest of the world that they would need to. If the speed was even that of what the average bum can get on the streets of Korean city for free then they might have something to talk about but it is not even close. On starts to think that if average US citizen were not so well trained to think that everything in the US is better than everywhere else maybe they would stop letting the telcos hose them.
