The point is that Microsoft has no focus. It's my duty to point that out because I'm a concerned customer who's best interests include doing whatever I can to ensure the viability of IT in the future. For better or worse, Microsoft is IT for a huge cross-section of business. I will never, ever subscribe to the notion that customers should just sit down, shut up and let their vendors flounder.
As for my credentials, being an IT professional since the 80s for starters. My professional life started out in AT&T Unix System V and Informix 4-GL for writing billing applications. Now I'm the IT director of a manufacturing company and hold several certifications, including MCSE 2003 and MCSD .NET. I want to see Microsoft continue to succeed. Success, to me, means more than just the bottom line though. It has to include the bottom line, but looking at that and excluding everything else is a recipe for failure.
As for you liking MS, good. I still like a few things about Microsoft, especially their developer tools. Visual Studio is light years ahead of vi. What I don't like is their business decisions. If you think good developers can overcome bad business decisions, you obviously weren't around this field in the 90s.
Oh, and if you don't think Microsoft running something like homeland defense is funny, thank god you're not in politics... - Posted by: jasonp@... Posted on: 03/14/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
