Rolling Thunder?
I guess that sounds better than monthly patch cycles. I see that Lovey already posted his drivel about how great everything from Microsoft is. Maybe they should get into homeland defense, pharmaceuticals, nation building and interstellar space travel while they're at it. After all, they are the cure for all the problems in the universe.

(Pause for the laughter to die down)

Ok, seriously. I can understand Microsoft wanting to extend some of their existing product lines to be able to run as hosted services. What I still can't understand is how their board of directors continues to leave management in place that has no clear direction except "if anyone else is doing it, so will we". At some point, somebody in a company has to be able to make the rational decision that profits are a driving point in business, but they aren't the only driving point. The just have way too many apologists out there (LD is a prime example) that refuse to hold the company to task over anything at all, much less selling crap then worrying about fixing it later.

All commercial software has bugs but not all of it requires service pack after service pack, plus dozens of hotfixes, just to have some semblance of stability and security. The number one reason for such shoddy work is lack of focus. When a software company has 50 or so active products along with a few dozen in the works, everything is going to suffer. Microsoft's "Gold Code" releases have been little if at all better than beta code. I know their programmers are better than that, so the fault must lie with the people making business decisions to put up unattainable release dates, forcing code to walk out the door before it's complete.
