Confused about the whole undersea cable issue
The official reason given by the Cuban government for rationing Internet use on the island is that the US embargo prevents Cuba from accessing undersea communications cables, thus limiting the available bandwidth. I am confused. How does the embargo prevent Cuba from accessing these cables? Does the US own these cables? Or does a US company own them? The embargo, after all, is a unilateral economic action by the US; it is not a _blockade_, and I am unaware that the US punishes any country for trading with Cuba - in fact, many of our allies (Spain, GB, France, Italy, Mexico,...) do. It would have been interesting to investigate this claim.
