RIAA hat in hand
Why do I keep reading about the RIAA and how they re protecting the recording industry?

I'm 53 and I dare say that for at least the past 40 years people have made copies of recordings for their own use; people have put together party tapes of various artists for their own use and now all of the sudden the RIAA steps in to "protect".

I gotta say that I doubt if the Rolling Stones and their private jets and islands were hurt too bad by people making copies for their own use. I doubt if the modern day rapper with their $25,000 of bling hanging around their neck have been hurt. I don't think the
$10,000 goodie bags sitting at the table during the Grammy's has shrunk in size. So who's dog is in this hunt?

I think the dog in the hunt is the RIAA and promulgating their reason for existence. With hat in hand they go begging to the politicians all the while giving great sums to political action committees. Only the employee's of the RIAA can give money to a PAC but they forget to say the rest of the story "and members of RIAA" can also give money.

SO if RIAA has signed every guitar player, singer, piano, bass, drum player from east to west coast...that is a good amount of money. That will (in our American political system) get the ear of many political people willing to make good, bad or ugly laws.

WWW.FEC.GOV is a place to see if the RIAA has given money to PAC's. But of course they could also be funneling money through many different channels. Oh well...that's Washington.
