The beginning of the end of POTS.
I'm going to put myself out on a limb and make a prediction: The POTS will be gone by 2020, replaced by DSL.

AOL is making the first move by jacking the price for dialup. Next, they'll drop dialup all together, forcing other ISPs/portals to do likewise.

With companies like Vonage making netphones, I'm suprised we haven't gone to all broadband phone network yet. Maybe this is the time for the Bells to get a jump on the market and convert to broadband/DSL phones. If the demand is there, someone will fill it.

Then everyone can hang up dialup.
