While I love both programs, I'm not grateful to Google for these programs. Google Earth was made by Keyhole, Inc. until google bought them out. Ditto for Picasa being an acquisition.
Google makes a great search engine, but the only software they've ever actually come out with is their IM Client (based on Jabber) and Google Desktop.
