I am still waiting to hear...
...anyone explain how Google holding my e-mail in accordance with their policies is any different than how any hosted e-mail provider handles theirs.

If your e-mail server is not within your building or sitting on your own owned and operated server in someone elses building in a locked room where only you alone have a key then your e-mail is just as secure/insecure as Google mail.

Not one ABGer has given me any eevidence that it will be less secure or open to scrutiniy based on actual Google practice or policy.

Now I have heard a great deal of trolls tell me, "I heard this," and "I believe that," or "If this is so," or "My understanding is such," but not one based on actual practice or policy.

Does the TLA FUD ring a bell?

If AOL is hosting your e-mail, if XO is hosting your e-mail, if Verizon/MCI/UUNET is hosting your e-mail, if Network Solutions or Verisign or SecureName is hosting your e-mail then expect it to be as secure/insecure as Gmail. The alternative is to host your own and that is not too difficult and can be fairly inexpensive.

We (corporate) choose a fairly expensive route with several Domino servers around the globe. I (personal) choose Gmail without regret thus far. My Family (other personal) choose NameSecure and one day, after an "e-mail system upgrade" to provide us with "better service and greater flexibility and options" --translated, "all those cool features you had will disappear and now we will charge you to put them back"-- we suddenly started getting over 100 spams per day in each mailbox.

Someone got all our e-mail addresses and publicised them. How curious! So far, no complaints with Gmail.
