All this talk about an opt-in service for free .... Did it EVER occur to anyone there's no such thing as FREE? Or is that too startling a concept for these boards to handle?

Google offers a gradated series of "free" services. The user can chose their level of participation. There are advisories attached to the choices, advisories made known to the user at the time the service is being installed.

What's the problem? Want REAL security? Then don't bother to share ANYTHING via the internet. Encode everything. Send it through private channels.

Going after google in this matter is just egregious stupididy. It matches the level of people who expect "free" services should be totally secure. Get real.
