None of the major BitTorrent clients have any problem with spyware...
uTorrent, BitComet, Azureus, etc, none of them have EVER contained spyware. Also, none of the major BitTorrent clients even use the word "BitTorrent" in their product name!?! The word "BitTorrent" more refers to the specification of the network protocol. The BitTorrent spec is free and open, so I dont really think Brian has anything to say about the other clients. I dont think they owe him a dime.
