I think you'll see RIAA companies slowly morph over time into PR
firms and distribution companies, because those are really the
services they're providing. Note that in general, PR firms and
distributors don't claim 95% plus of the revenue from the
products they're promoting and distributing, unlike the RIAA
does now. Which means a massive downsizing for them, and a
lot more money going into the pockets of artists. Think about
it, even if "piracy" remains rampant, some people will always buy
a cd to support the artist. If the artist is getting money from this
(as opposed to the current situation where they get no money
from cd sales), they're better off, even if filesharing continue
unabated.

It'll take some time, as the RIAA companies have many artists
under long term contracts, but eventually they'll die off.
