"It's bad enough that copyright is being violated, and much worse if companies are cynically trying to profit from those violations."

lol. The funny thing is, before all this P2P stuff started, everyone knew that the record industry was currupt, that they raped the artists and that only big stars ever saw a return for their hard work (usually when they started their own record company).
Now record companies are the victims, and everyone is talking about how horrible copyright infringement is. Personally, I don't buy it. This legal hoopa is a pathetic attempt on the part of the record industry to keep their strangle hold on the "music industry".

Big business poisons whatever it touches. Art ... Sports ... everything really. Personally, I think that music can only benefit, as a whole, from the decline of the major record labels.
