Thanks for those awesome points! You really did an excellent job in outlining why an SaaS model could work, but just not like SalesForce is doing it.

We, too, build these types of systems, but our "mash-ups" are all contained within our service. It's not an open platform where anything can plug-and-play because that open "ecosystem" idea will not survive.

When customers need an interface, we develop it. They don't pay a lot for it and other customers can now take advantage of it. But we control it and can keep all of the versioning issues in one set of hands.

In the end, business people want solutions that work for a reasonable price. Don't forget that many of the folks on these blogs and the writers for ZDNet are very technical-focused, so they love new technical ideas, no matter what headaches they bring for business users.
