Myopia in business and IT infrastructure
Now that some of the big companies are getting excited over "service on demand" type of online business infrastucture, SalesForce might be a good example of a beta, or an impending doom; with my opinion being the latter.

Selling the software once and failing to profit afterwards; especially leaving consumers of these well established products unchecked so they can migrate to another product, makes those cunning big corporations who make standard setting software, take a wrong turn. I would say it looks as dumb as calves impersonating foxes.

Next to outsourcing customer service, then IT support, next comes CRM outsourcing. Dumbness at its peak!

No failover systems, one point of vulnerability, and myriad points of failure by depending on an open access network... makes me think that those people who opt for this kind of service are just cutting down on costs; on the cost of availability... and dependability.

Heads up, Microsoft! If you think your service on demand based business model is going to work out, you are sadly mistaken!

As for the people who prefer these kind of services; well.. We are living in an era where YOUR business simply won't go without YOUR IT team.
