You take the President and the NSA at their word, and yet, when a politician claims he had concerns about the project's legality, you question his claim. There is, as of yet, no evidence to support the President's claim he only tapped foreigners. In fact, according to FISA, FISA rejected many of the wiretaps which the NSA then continued to set up against the Courts order. Finally, if FISA had no oversight over the wiretaps Bush wanted, then why did he and his people try to argue that the reason he went around FISA was because FISA was too slow at supplying wiretaps? (Of which, by the way, was a terrible argument which had no bearing).

You're right on this point. Way to go. But, our gov't might have to answer to other countries for kidnapping/torturing their citizens (who were eventually thought to be innocent and then released).

Actually, legal challenges have historically been unable to have oversight until it was too late. For example, we did not grant concessions to the Japanese Americans imprisoned in WWII until just recently - of which, they were either old or dead. The Courts, during the Civil War, refused to end Lincoln's removal of habeus corpus. It was only after the war ended, that the Courts decided his idea wasn't quite so good.

My questions were rhetorical. They were in response to your statement: "The thing you have to ask yourself is why would they be interested in listening to ordinary citizens which would be a clear violation of the law." So, if Nixon knew it was illegal, why did he do it? If you can answer that question, you might see why President Bush might be interested in violating the law as well.
