Your reference to the NSA also is not relevant to this case since it covers Internet wiretapping and not phone calls.

As to the N.Y Times holding the story for a year and then advising the President before exposing it, also constitutes no proof of anything. It was released in timing with a Supreme Court Justice advice and consent hearing where the person being considerred had made rulings in favor of the executive branch in this area. It was also the week of Congress considerring renewal of the Patriot Act. That also is not proof of anything but does seem suspicious.

As to your ascretain the Vice President or the Seceratary of Defense lied, is also speculation. Since we are not in a position to know what they knew when, they might of believed what they said and then would only be guilty of being mistaken.
