Uncle Sam wants to know about YOU!
So what's new? George W. Bush and his inner circle believe that
the Presidency is equal to "emperor" or "king" and that he has
been divinely chosen (he said so himself) and, therefore, has the
"divine right of kings" to do whatever he believes is necessary.
When it was discovered that he had been breaking the law of the
land routinely by authorizing (in fact demanding) warrantless
wiretaps on U.S. citizens his reaction was basically, "So what?
I'm the President. I'm the Commander and Chief (of what he
doesn't specify, unlike the Constitution that does specify a
civilian Commander and Chief of the Army and the Navy). I can
do whatever I want." The problem is that he really believes this.
He believes he has a not only a right, but a duty to spy on
everyone. He claims it is necessary in the name of "national
security." Unlike the great patriot, Patrick Henry, who said, "Give
me liberty or give me death," Mr. Bush believes that individual
security for the rich (the poor and middle-class don't count, of
course), supercedes personal liberty. Liberty is dangerous. And
he must be right, because God told him so!
