The REAL Danger ...
It seems that more and more with high speed, various organizations are attempting to treat the IP address to be personally identifiable. But how can you guarantee that it was somebody at my home that typed in those keywords based on IP address? You can spoof an IP address, after all -- it might not even be my PC!! The bad guys don't usually follow the rules. And even if it was my PC, how do you know that I was the one that typed in those search criteria? It's becoming a scary world.

I understand the whole bit about stopping pornography and terrorism. But the same snooping that could be used to catch the bad guys can also be used by unethical folks to get money from the good guys too. For example, if I type "Diabetes" in a search engine, who's to say that eventually that information won't be snooped on, and shared with Medicare, Social Security or my insurance company? Or that it gets written to a database where employers can do background checks for a fee.

Wow! This job application did a search for baby clothes two weeks ago. Maybe we shouldn't hire her right now, since she might have a pre-existing condition.

Or whoops! Somebody at this IP address did a search for "Cancer" so that probably means that somebody in that household has it. Maybe we should increase his contribution because obviously he's going to be making claims. Whoops ... and they also searched for the word "cigarette". Nasty, nasty. Time to really raise the rates because that household represents an unusually high risk case ...
