- This is further proof that those we elect to represent us and write our laws don't carry as much weight as bureaucrats and judges. Happens all the time, the bureaucrats interpret laws to serve their needs, and judges can decide how they want to interpret them; and in the case of the Supreme Court their interpretations become the de facto law of the land. The US has never been a Democracy, wasn't designed to be one, but we certainly are straying further and further from the tenents of a Republic for the people.
