Turn in your passport...
I can't believe anyone would call themselves a US Citizen and spout this nonsense in not 1, but 2, posts. I respect your right to say it, but you apparently slept through the better part of your citizenship classes. Sure, there is bias in the US media, and a sad blindness to important issues and viewpoints. But to make comparisons between wholesale, state-sponsored censorship of dissenting opinion in China and a media which does a mediocre job here in the US is pure fallacy and frankly a lack of perspective. Falun Gong may be a "terrorist group", Tibet may be a fascist regime, and Tien-an-men may have allowed hardliners to come to power, but the Chinese people have NEVER had the chance to choose their leaders and the system under which they are goverened. Does that make things "simpler"? Sure. Does ignorance perpetuate the "state of bliss" that exists in China? Absolutely.

It is, however, wholely un-American to in any way support this; its frankly bad enough that we look the other way in the interest of economic benefit. Google has positioned itself as a benign, non-commercialized resource dealing in the common knowledge, wisdom and ideas of the human race; was this just a come-on to "liberal investors"? Perhaps. Does that in anyway minimize the right of those same "liberal investors" to rail against this practice? Nope.

So, Jonk, here's the thing : starting a democracy sucks - its always hard, never easy. It was here, it was every where its happened. While I don't believe that we Americans should impose our values on the world, we should certainly not acquiesce the wishes of a brutal, oppressive and self-serving regime (if you think China's not that, you need to get your head out of the sand) and conspire to keep the Chinese people from knowing the truth, the whole truth, and everyone's versions of the truth. Chinese people I have known are intelligent, thoughtful individuals; if Falun Gong and Tibet are as bad as you state, let them decide for themselves, allow them to choose to be governed by people who oppress the terrorits and fascists. Mass ignorance, for the benefit of stability and hapiness, is a fool's game. And I for one would happily chip in for your plane ticket back to your utopia, Jonk. How's that for butting out?
