This is the one single reason why I'd never consider hosted applications for any critical or even important functions: no matter how good the host is at making things reliable, you're still not in control. There will be an outage at some point, and you're at their mercy. When you retain control, at least managing the resolution is in your hands and you can gauge your interim operational decisions on more information. Nothing is more important that retaining control of your critical systems, and having solid accountability for all pieces you don't own.
