BIG problem
"Since the French legal system defined the content to be unacceptable, it seems reasonable that sites outside France"

STOP!

Since when should a foreign government have any control over what a domestic company can do? This is total idiocy, and violates our right to govern our own people.

I strongly disagree that a US company should be subject to foreign laws. The very reason I live in the US is so I'm free to do a lot of stuff I couldn't do in a foreign country. Are you saying that now we should shackle our freedoms again? I think not.

"it isn't that difficult for a web site to check what country an IP is in"

OK, good - tell me what the process is for checking for it.

I vote that if a foreign government doesn't like our stuff, they do what China does and filter it themselves.
