Repeats and cost....
"Then why are there so many repeats? How many times do we watch the same shows over and over and over again?"

A valid question. People tend to watch a few favorites several times or more, but most only are viewed once or twice, cuz we get sick of even a movie that we like moderately well.

"To me, we're in a restricted market, we are swimming in repeats because its cheaper to show the same shows over and over again. So it's saturated, but new stuff will displace the churned repeats and poor quality TV (of which there is plenty)."

Well...yes...but that doesn't necessarily advance your view. The lower quality content is cheaper, hence it becomes "filler" and rerun material. The flop side of that is the quality material, that continues to be reshown because of demand due to its "favorite" status.

In either case, it points to one thing: over the long haul, who will buy the lesser content? I'm much more likely to buy content that I'd want to view multiple times, even if I have to pay a bit more. I doubt that Google or anyone else can create markets that don't exist - people won't view just anything because it is now cheaper than ever before. They will have to have the premium content - and that brings us to your last statement:

"So they're fighting on easy fronts."

No...because premium content brings high cost of entry...up front, before you know if your venture is going to be successful...and it determines your success, so there's no way to skimp on it.
