Competition is good
"Just took a look at the site and some of the "offerings". Also looked at what it took to buy a clip. Hmmm, first I have to sign up and become one of the Google groupies, ummm, no thanks..."

So MS should open up the market too and their groupies can have a store too, and Apple should quit messing around with 2" screen video snippets and commercialize the long tail via quicktime and AOL should..., well AOL should continue providing the comic relief because they seem clueless.

Everyone can make their choices and see whose right.

I think they (Google) did a lot of good choices with that store, but competition will only make things better.

As far as I can see, the Google store introduces:

1. Commercialization of long tail, not just 'lost' repeats.
2. Download and playable on DIVX, unprotected DIVX or MPEG4 are what all these cheap Chinese players support, so unprotected DIVX or MPEG4 had to be an option.
3. Download, everyone has enough bandwidth until rush hour, on the net and video stopping half way through is a real killer.

I think they're good choices, I guess we'll see.

"Google will suffer if they don't set a minimum quality level for the content."

Or get enough content in that poor quality clips sink to the bottom of the rankings.
