AOL acquires video search engine Truveo

Let me play devil's advocate: My guesses are these:

Based on Alexa details they had 25000 searches/day.
Assume they get 60% adsense share.
Assume Google gets $16m/day from search.
I guess Google does 250m search/day currently.

= $1000/day maximum revenue.

Assume that people searching for videos are not likely to click *text* adverts. Think about it, if they wanted text search results, they'd be using a text search engine, they want videos, so text adverts are not likely to appeal.
Hence CTR is likely to be very very low, my guess is less than $200/day in revenue.

My guess on the technology?

Windows video frame grab (API built into the Windows OS lets you grab a key frame). Window video metrics (for the duration and resolution information). Gamut & Contrast tests for the quality of the video based on the keyframe.
