You might see it reasonable
... but I sure don't.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a simple case of cash for comment. A big company feels they're losing a bit (and proportionally speaking, it is a small portion!) of cash so they spend even more on a lawyer to ask for cash from the ISP where it's coming from. The ISP says "Please don't! We'll tell you who it was!" and those records which are given to them in confidence are then passed on to a corporation.

It is merely a transaction in my eyes and that's no different to a telco handing out records to telemarketers. It's one thing to go after a hardened criminal for something serious but if this is indeed a civil lawsuit as you suggest, then there is insufficient cause for me to believe that this was not an invasion of the individual's privacy.

As for wiping out the evidence, it still appears to me as a case of guilty until proven innocent. After all, that's what winners and losers are. You're innocent, you win. You're guilty, you lose. The other side is the direct opposite of the defendant's outcome.

It's moments like these that I'm glad I chose to be an engineer over a lawyer. When we need such a low life, it's because we have other low lives like media companies chasing ordinary people down for extraordinary damages.
