I would hardly consider this the "Next Killer App", IE killer or excuse for Google to buy FireFox. Just because it has been mentioned on 50 blogs doesn't mean squat. When millions of people install it and use it, then will it mean something. Until then, it's vaporware.

1. A ?Killer App? is something that comes along and displaces current technology through innovation. As the proposed functionality uses existing technologies like BitTorrent, it?s technically a reiteration of a BitTorrent application. Besides, Opera already has some of this proposed functionality in its browser. The only innovation comes through its proposed ease of use for non-technical people.

2. Firefox is a great browser, its best feature comes from the fact that you can choose to add ?extensions? to enhance, change and extend the application to meet your personal needs. You aren?t locked into what Microsoft thinks you need as a browser, and that is truly innovative (amazing that it?s as simples as ?choice?). But the fact of the matter is that most people use IE, adding a new extension to Firefox won?t spark a mass migration to Firefox, but it may help the cause.

3. It makes no sense for Google to make an attempt to buy Firefox or any other browser. For those of you who are saying ?Well it would be another avenue for advertising sales?. I say to you, look at Opera, it sells ads in its browser and still has a tiny market share. Why try to recreate that model? It?s clear that the R.O.I is pretty poor for a company like Google. I personally think that Google is happy just contributing to the project if only because it pisses Microsoft off.

4. BitTorrent has proven to have many illegitimate uses. It was set-up from the start to be abused whether by choice or happenstance. However, BitTorrent?s most ignored and legitimate use is the fact that:
I can create My Own Content whether it?s photos, videos or music.
I can create it DRM free.
I can share it with whomever I damn well please.
It may be dangerous, rife with chances for things to go wrong, but if you let those things get in your way, why bother doing anything. We didn?t let the fact that going to the moon was dangerous. We knew it was dangerous, mistakes were made along the way, but you never know what you are made of until you try.
