For your mission critical applications, this is prime example why NO ONE in their right business mind should EVER rely on a Internet Based application.

Yes, downtime is to be expected regardless of whether it is In House or Hosted Elsewhere. At least with In House, the variables that can go wrong are less then the one with hosted. And you have more control (assuming budget and resource available).
