As far as I can see, MS can leverage its new Windows Presentation Foundation functionality to create stunning ads in smart client applications ? ads that would make the ones found in web browsers look like jokes. Also, I think it is important to note that ads don?t have to be annoying, or be at best bearable. Movie trailers and music videos are ads that people go out their way to see. Apple is even selling music videos (which are ads for CDs), and profiting from it. All MS has to do is explore ways to make ads compelling, by embedding in them, qualities that will make people actually want to view them.

I think that it is nonsense that MS needs to be defensive about the web. I believe MS should view the web as providing an opportunity to make the client a stunning platform, for the superior display of Internet based data.
