You're still not making any sense
---It stops the many from copying. A ******** pirate will be difficult. Those hardcores are in the minority. The police go after the hardcores and the technology stops the lightweights in the majority. It is the most cost effective way of doing things.---

Can you explain what you mean by "stops the many from copying"? As far as I can tell, nearly everything on p2p networks are digital:digital copies. What would stopping analog:digital copying (which is what this legislation does) do to prevent piracy?

Nope, what it's meant to do is stop me from recording a tv show and time/space shifting it. Instead, I'm supposed to buy it.

---No, it hampers your ability to exercise your fair use rights within the realm of the limitations of that device. Not their problem. That is the loophole. They could make pentagon 7" dia. CDs and players that only read with a 128k output only, and it will not violate your fair use rights. Don't buy their product. The majority will if it looks kewl---

So you're admitting that this legislation is terrible for consumers? Correct? It severely limits our rights, takes away something we get for free now, and we'd be idiots to support it, correct? And that it's terrible for electronics manufacturers, as it means there won't be any reason for us to buy a whole host of products, as they'll no longer work. Is that what you're saying?

---You are totally dead wrong here. The media companies are distributors. All forms of business needs distribution. If the RIAA were to go, the greed would shift to the artists anyway and they would starve. Rock bands couldn't promote jack. That is the distributors speciality. Lets get rid of Home Depot distribution because they get a cut. Sheesh! As for electronic companies not needing media companies, are you for real? The electronic companies do not want to deal with the demands of a thousand artists.---

Get rid of the RIAA and there would never be any music ever again? Hardly. If they're not distributing it, someone else will. Apple will step in to the gap, just as one example. Or myspace.com.

Actually, your last sentence here is a brilliant one:
"The electronic companies do not want to deal with the demands of a thousand artists."

Exactly right. You could also change it slightly to read "The electronic companies do not want to deal with the demands of a thousand misguided business men at RIAA/MPAA companies."

So the smart thing for them is to do what the customer wants, do what sells best. Screw the demands of the artists and the media companies, instead do what's best for your own business. Right now, they can legally do this, but with this legislation, all their design decisions will have to be run by the RIAA/MPAA for approval. Do you want your business to be run by someone else?

---Quit linking to 3 year old articles. It isn't true anymore. There is a new enemy that has emerged. They are all against the swapper now.---

That article is relevant, as it was the last attempt to get similar legislation passed. Don't like it? Well, here's one from November, 2005, from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association, made up of over 2000 electronics manufacturing companies):
http://members.ce.org/press_room/press_release_detail.asp?id=10867

Still want to pretend that electronics companies think that turning their design decisions over to a much smaller industry is a good thing?

---That last link was referencing history to justify its current argument. It is a fluff piece that means nothing and is another open website.
http://www.neurosaudio.com/about.asp---

Huh? That's a statement from an electronics manufacturer, one who's fed up with the RIAA and MPAA and is exercising their legal rights to make the best product possible, one that consumers really want. Here's the product in question, by the way, and it has none of the safeguards Hollywood wants built in. Buy it now, before it gets outlawed:

http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=DigitalInnovationsCatalog&product%5Fid=4030200&keyword=psp&searchcat=products&cookie%5Ftest=1

---Neutral links make better arguments.---

I prefer links that come directly from the source. You're claiming that electronics companies feel a certain way. I'm giving you links showing that those companies feel the exact opposite of what you're claiming. Wanna post a "neutral link" showing all the electronics companies out there who want their products crippled and their ability to innovate stifled?
