Why don't we just change the name...
of this country to Hollywood? To reiterate the first poster, TV content is already paid for with advertising money.I seem to remember that the TV studios didn't care if you recorded shows with a VCR. It wasn't until they started selling entire seasons on DVD that they started to show some interest.
This doesn't worry me so much though, the hackers will do what they do best and turn Hollywood's investment into a cash losing mistake. Everything that can be made can be unmade.
