AOL does do business with Microsoft
One of the great frustrations that shops who had standardized on the Netscape Browser got when Netscape was purchased by AOL was that AOL standardized on the Internet Explorer browser. The facts of this were documented by Jackson.

Microsoft paid and otherwise enticed AOL to standardize on IE. For every copy of IE downloaded by an AOL subscriber, Microsoft paid and AFAIK still pays AOL a couple of bucks. Those free subscription disks AOL bombed the US population with are likely part of that arrangement. Microsoft remains the environment in which computing is done at AOL. It will be that way for at least 10 more years. Of course there is FireFox.

Nonetheless. How great it is that Google, a Stanford University project, like Stanford University Network (SUN), also at one time a Stanford University project, is doing so well. The west coast rules.

BTW, anyone who wants to code in Java can learn quickly by Google searching. Google makes a point of eating its own dog doo which in this case means it uses Java as well as supports it. Linux as well. Microsoft, best I can tell, doesn't use its own tools for its own software developement.

Consider this..

Microsoft is restricted just like AT&T and IBM were after they were found to be monopolies (or close to it). The company can and should remain an on going concern but it should not be considered a "growth" company nor allowed to innovate in ways not supported by the industry. New management that understands this can protect shareholder interests this new management appears appropriate at this time. Can you imagine Ballmer brokering any deal outside of one among the similarly criminal minded? This is the man that would put Ham Sandwiches into Windows products just because he sees holes in consent decrees. I can not see him in a negotiators role. This should be troubling to all Microsoft shareholders. Think how great the return of Paul Allen might be for the company.

WOW - Bush found in violation of the US Constitution. There are worse. This story will not be remembered owing to Ashcroft's Patriot Act and Bush's NSA violation. To think however that Microsoft is not part of the slime on the top story ignores Microsoft's funding of Ashcroft's political career and its network of spies in Connecticute (home of the Bush family) that allowed it to capture a prirat today from that area.

Merry Christmas.
