Wiki what?
Stegosaurus Cowboy you hit the nail on the head. When Brandt comes out and says "they rush to make corrections" the they he is talking about is anyone who posts or updates an article on wikipedia. Why didn't Brandt do that? Why didn't John Seigenthaler?

And if Brandt is so nit-picky about the accuracy of information on Wikipedia I hope to hell he's keeping his own house in order because he sells information on other people. That's his core business.

Finally, as a self-appointed moderator on Wikipedia I can tell you there's a flip-side to this story that the press hasn't bothered to cover. When the Terri Schiavo controversy was raging it was an uphill battle to keep postings like "Michael Schiavo is a murderer." and "Michael Schiavo beat his wife." out of the article. It wasn't uncommon for reverts for just this sort of non-neutral point of view posting to occur on an hourly basis. There have been similar battles on the "Joan of Arc" article where the original poster refused to allow any psychological explanations of Joan's visions to be added or on the "Human" article where someone insisted that scientific data be dumped in favor of a creationist agenda.

Neutral point of view is paramount at Wikipedia.

And mere inaccuracy is a minor problem when trying to mitigate the desires of an easily offended, yet insistent minority who expect a scientific tome to take on a religious aspect.
