Whatever...
As though a registree of a domain name not including a real phone number is the world's security issue. The vast majority are probably just people who are concerned for their privacy...with all the identity theft that goes on, telemarketing, and potential for getting added to some list - no matter whose it be.

I don't personally see any security threat, physical or digital, from not having a real phone number included. If that domain is involved in "dodgy" behavior, suspend it. It's that simple. Until then, leave it alone.

As for cognitive harmony and rose-colored glasses, yeah, there's alot of trouble in the world. Always will be. So doesn't it make sense to fry the big fish first? We've put the terrorists on alert and forced the fight back into their own territory. There has not been a successful attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, and at least several attempts have been thwarted world-wide since. There have been a few bad incidents (London subway and Madrid trains come to mind), but clearly we have done the right thing by pursuing Al Q. rather than just trying to build a security wall around the U.S.

So...I'm not sure what you're point really is. I think the threat of "dodgy domain names" is overrated, and I don't think the software industry is all that vulnerable. Back up your data, have a disaster recovery plan, and look at alternative products if you keep having security flaws in the ones you use. Worldwide, support those who take real stands against terrorists, not those who use the appeasement approach or want "dialog". Then, you won't need the rose-colored glasses because things will actually become better.
