Profit
Hi, mjb.

No offense, bhar..whatever, but it seems like you're not seeing the common thread: money. Cash. Profit. I guarantee the Rolling Stones didn't donate their services to Microsoft.

You can call me Brian. happy

As to your point, I did note that the Rolling Stones would be out of the Mozilla Foundation's fundraising capabilities. But there's really no way around it: If you're going to compete, then you need advertising. Maybe they can't pull together a 10-minute Rolling Stones primetime ad, but I'm pretty sure they could pull together some Flash ads to run on the NYtimes.com or CNN website, or at least some sites to get some reasonable exposure to the non-technogensia, Web-browsing public. Marketing a Web browser in print just doesn't make as much sense to me. Maybe that would mean asking for donations more aggressively. But if everyone who downloaded Firefox voluntarily gave even $2, it would go a hell of a way towards an advertising campaign, even if they couldn't get a major rock band on TV.
