My banker son-in-law and his friends are, to my knowledge, totally agnostic, bordering on ignorant, about software. They just use Firefox because somebody suggested it, they tried it and liked it. From No-Ax and LR posts, they also use FF, and neither is exactly neutral when it comes to MS. Many products pick up adherents by word of mouth and personal experience, rather than being tied to individual philosophy.

I'm not sure why you insist that the only reason to use it is an alternative to IE, which was an alternative to Netscape, which was an alternative to Mosaic. If it weren't better suited to user needs, by and large they would simply ignore it.
