Issue Is One Of Free Speech
I do not believe the correct argument is ?we developed it or paid for it therefore it is ours to do what we want.? This argument is American centric and in fact fueling more opposition to your cause and further missing the bigger picture of FREE SPEECH. If the internet is functioning without issue why would the U.N. wish to bring it under its control? Well we know that in America there is the 1st Amendment. If there is a violation of this then at least one can try to correct the offence. Is there such an enshrined amendment at the U.N.? I think not. Thus by shifting the legal jurisdiction of the internet there would exist the ability to restrict certain sights without or with very very limited recourse, or at least the cost to fight would be too prohibited.

If the U.S.A. government was serious about maintaining the freedom of the internet it would ensure that the American 1st Amendment right or similar legal safe guards with similar or stronger wording be the foundation with any international body or else threaten to walk away or not ratify as was the case with the Kyoto Accord, or treaties on the use of certain chemical or biological weapons.

Unfortunately the U.S.A. government and senators serve the same masters as those of the U.N. This charade is just a farce that will lead to the eventual restriction of internet sights without any or very limited recourse.
