That what google is doing is an awful lot like MS Passport.

Google is adding all these services and when tied with logging in with your gmail account, it basically acts like what MS was trying to do with Passport. That is, they are trying to make it so that no matter which Google service you are using, information mined about you is all tied to your account so that Google can concentrate ads based on your interests.

Funny how Passport fell apart and yet with Google, everyone keeps embracing their "services" even though they are desinged to do what MS tried several years ago.

Each of Google's services are a means by which they gain useful insight into your habits. What you post on the internet, what you shop for, what is discussed in your emails, what you search for, what local services you lookup, where you go, etc can all be tied back to an individual.

Google is a data mining operation, plain and simple. They are not out to save the world, they are out to make money and seems that everyone is obliged to help them whether they realize it or not.
