Google has all these services, but they're all free. For a multi-billion dollar corporation, where is the revenue generated? What does Google make and sell? I believe they have intranet search utilities for businesses, but what percentage of their net income does that account for? I'll bet it's less than 5%. Their money comes from add revenue. They deliver ads. They are extremely good at it, but right now, that's ALL they do. All this recent speculation about distributed web apps is fine, but IMO it had the OPPOSITE effect it was intended to: instead of Google/Sun trying to compete with MS Office, Microsoft is considering ad supported versions of their applications. If you ask me, that's a BIG mistake, because Microsoft is entering that market (ad distribution) from a weak position relative to Google instead of leveraging their current offerings.
Wow, that turned into a rant...
