For DNS you don't control allocation anyway, the various registrars do so it's not yours to relinquish.
For IP allocation, ICANN has been tortuously handing the IP space out drib by drib for a long time. I don't get IP's from ICANN, I get them from RIPE mostly.
The worst case scenario is that the rest of he world handles its own IP allocations via RIPE etc. (as it does now), and USA refuses to allot more IP addresses to organisations like RIPE at which point the roots would split.
But you'd have to force the split though.
It's just a procedural change, instead of meeting at ICANN with a few delegates with an effective US veto, they'll meet at the ITU with a bigger set of delegates and nobody having a veto. - Posted by: Nigel Johnstone Posted on: 11/14/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
