Why not just give MPAA money?
Wouldn't it be cheaper just to give the MPAA money rather than force everyone to buy new copy restricted DRM'd devices? If every household donates say $500 instead of spending $1000 on new equipment, that'll be 50 billion, they claim to lose $5 billiona year in piracy, say $1 billion of that is in the USA, thats 50 years worth of losses covered.

Also I don't see how it would work, lots of things are illegal but it doesn't stop them happening 100%, since it only takes 1 copy to cross from copy restricted to non-copy restricted, and there are already lots of devices out there that can make a copy it couldn't work.

Perhaps you could have a guns for toys like program, VCRs for toys?
