Stop the madness...
Microsoft seriously needs to overhaul it's management. They are going the route of IBM, trying to be everything to everybody. Operating systems, office apps, collaberation servers, business servers, email, messenging...have I left anything out? Five little letters...FOCUS.

Microsoft has some of the best software developers in the world working for them. If they would focus on even two or three core areas, they would be able to maintain a professional level of competence. They can't continue to expand to every vertical and horizontal market in the software industry and think they'll continue ot be successful though. What is happening is a change in mindset that should be troubling to Microsoft's board of directors. Instead of wanting to be the best in market in everything they do, they have become happy with being a bit player. Take those resources being wasted on a market they aren't committed to dominating and reassign them to markets they are.

They know they're not going to be the next PeopleSoft or SAP/Oracle in the business software market. If you're not trying to be the best, why are you there? You are making more than enough money dominating the markets you're firmly in control of. Don't risk losing those markets because of lack of focus. I hope someone in MS's board room is paying attention and realizes that a few extra bucks in profit this quarter isn't worth squat if it means greater losses down the road.
