Do Not Agree With Your Argument
I read your blog entry and with respect to copyright the problem these days is not the copyright. The reason why things are bland is because there is too much information.

Business week recently did a short column on the Oprah Winfrey Book Club. She is doing so well because she makes good recommendations. The problem is that people go into book stores and don't have a clue what to get because there are literally thousands of books. And those books that are in the open are not necessarily the best ones, but the ones that paid the most to be showcased.

On the other hand I went to Powells in Portland and saw that their people recommended books and was impressed at how good they were. These authors were not well known, but they wrote well.

As my wife says, I would rather pay 10 dollars for a so-so book from a known author, then pay 10 dollars for a book that might either be great or bad from an unknown author.

How do we change this? Easy, make recommendations show choice to other people because otherwise corporations will and they will do what's easiest not's what's best.

Oh, about the author getting the most income early on is not always true...
