Google is theft, open-source rival not
If Google makes any of the books to which I hold copyright available to the public without paying me or getting my permission I will be suing them all the way. It is outright theft, especially since they are stealing intellectual property to generate ad revenue. Where the heck they get the idea that this is legal I do not know. Look for a growing anti-Google campaign if they don't back off.

Conversely, the open source project is quite clear on the concept: public domain and explicitly copyright released material. Fine. Good. Maybe great. But making money of my work, without even asking, no way Google!
